I've updated the search page
Posted by Chris @ 9:03 pm
I've finally got around to updating my search page that I mentioned back in February so that it works with the Google AJAX Search API for the Google Search and Google Blog Search. I've also removed the MSN search tab as that was getting a bit useless, and the options to change the scope of the search between my website and the wider web. If you want to search the wider web, go to a search website!
The Google AJAX Search API certainly is quick in operation, but it is an absolute bitch to implement, it has taken me a few evenings to get it looking how I wanted. Maybe because that is not how Google intended it to be used, or maybe I've just been a bit stupid. Has anyone else used it, what were your experiences?
Right, next, according to my post in February, is the sitemaps site wide validator....

You know what would help when searching for things on your site? If your pages had their own descriptive titles rather than just:"Chris Riley - cgriley.com - Blog, photos, genealogy and more"
Sort it out Coco!!!

And once again if you use a proper blogging tool not this sh1tty thing then you'd have search facilities built in, making use of your keywords and tags!!MOVE TO COMMUNITY SERVER!!

MOVE TO COMMUNITY SERVER!!Listen tigermain, it's called "Community Server" for a reason. It's meant for communities. However, your blog is just a blog, not a entire social network. So why are you forcing us to register on your site if all we want to do is make a comment on one of your posts? That's shitty.
Furthermore, your tags are flawed since they include HTML entities like "amp", "quot" and "nbsp" even when don't appear to be used - and there are far too many of them for them to be useful.
My opinion? Stick to nice, simple piece of Blogger software (like Blogger or Wordpress) - unless you've got a massive community that requires all the additional features of Community Server - and use your own skills to create extra bits of functionality, just like Coco's doing.
MOVE TO BLOGGER (or at least allow anonymous comments)!!!
